UPDATED 2020 Gala Info

Hi everyone

Please stay healthy and safe, take care of yourself and the people around you, and know that we’re committed to carrying on our work during these very weird times.

Below is a note from our Board Chair, Kathryn E Shoemaker, as well as an update on our Gala event in September.

A Message from Kathryn E. Shoemaker

The main event of spring 2020 for the BC Yukon Book Prizes was supposed to be our Gala. When news of COVID-19 hit we immediately postponed the timing of the event from April to September. We held out faint hope that we would all be able to gather together at that time.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to guarantee everyone’s safety for an in-person Gala this year, so we will be producing an online version to celebrate and honour the excellence in BC and Yukon writing and publishing on September 19, 2020.

On behalf of the Board and staff I simply want to express the gentle and urgent imperative of Dr. Bonny Henry, be kind, be safe.

It will not go on this way forever.

In fact, at the BC and Yukon Book Prizes this strange time forces our hand to do some serious rethinking and planning around what we do, how and why we do it.

We are working with other arts organizations to build partnerships, to share our resources and to support each other.

We all need each other right now.

We need all of you, our BC and Yukon friends and supporters.

Thank you.

Kathryn E. Shoemaker

BC and Yukon Book Prizes Board Chair
