Submission Form for BC and Yukon Book Prizes 2021

DEADLINE: TUESDAY DECEMBER 1st, 2020

Hello and thank you for your interest in submitting to the 2021 BC and Yukon Book Prizes. You are a publisher or an author with a book or books that are published in 2020 and that meet our criteria for entry.

The BC and Yukon Book Prizes award excellence in writing by writers from BC and Yukon across seven categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, regional writing, children’s literature, illustrated children’s literature, and a prize sponsored by booksellers.

These are very exciting times for writers and publishers in BC and Yukon!


Eligibility

General Criteria

Publication Year Eligibility

Year of publication must be 2020.

 

Residency Criterion

Author and/or Illustrator must meet BC residency criterion, except for the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize and the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award. See Categories & Criteria.

 

Formal Editing

Self-published books must have gone through a formal editing process carried out by a third party.

Final Note and Agreement:

  • - Publishers will provide 5 copies of each title submitted to the BC and Yukon Book Prizes for our adjudication and cataloguing process.
  • - Publishers also agree to provide an epub version of each title that can be used strictly for adjudication purposes and for the use of the National Network for Equitable Library Service to provide versions of all shortlisted books for readers who are visually impaired. All parties will sign a NDA related to the use of these files.
  • - The publishers of finalist books will be expected to participate in the shared cost of print and digital ads placed in magazines, newspapers, and online spaces related to the literary communities of BC and Yukon announcing the finalists. Cost per book is $100.
  • - The publishers of finalist books will be asked to sponsor the Soirée. Cost per book is $100.
  • The publishers of winning books will be expected to participate in the shared cost of print and digital ads placed in magazines, newspapers, and online spaces related to the literary communities of BC and Yukon announcing the winners, and of the winner posters and bookmarks which are distributed to BC libraries and bookstores. Cost per book is $300.
  • - All publishers, authors, and illustrators are invited to attend the Soirée which is a free event. Details related to how and when this event will take place is forthcoming.
  • - Tickets to the BC and Yukon Book Prizes Gala are not provided to finalists by the BCYBP and so must be paid for by the authors/illustrators or their publishers in order for them to attend. Whether there will be a public Gala in the future remains unknown at this time and will be wholly dependent on the advice of Dr Bonnie Henry and other public health officials. We look forward to that day.
  • - The publishers of winning books will be expected to provide up to 7 copies of the book for the “Win the Winners” contest.
  • - The publishers of winning books also agree to provide a 50% discount on books purchased by the BC and Yukon Book Prizes for our Adopt-a-Library Program.
