How to Enter

Submissions are now closed. Submissions for the 2026 prizes (books published in 2025) will open in August 2025.

Publishers and authors may submit books that fit the prizes/awards categories as posted on the BC and Yukon Book Prizes website. Books must meet all of the general criteria for the BC and Yukon Book Prizes, and all the eligibility criteria for each individual prize. There are eight prize categories and one award given out each year. See Prize and Award Categories for details.

To be eligible, entry forms and fees must be received no later than December 1, 2024. ($45 per book, per prize category entered).

The Official Entry Form will be available beginning August 20, 2024, until the closing date for entries which is December 1, 2024. Books must have been published during that same calendar year between January 1 and December 31, for the eight prize categories including the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.

Five copies of the book must be provided for each title and category entered. No copies of books are to be provided for the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award, which is decided by ballot (see sidebar).

Books published by November 15 must be received in our office by December 1. No exceptions will be made. Books published between November 15 and December 31 must request a late submission of books option, in writing, on the Official Entry Form and indicate when the books will be available. The Entry Form and fee must still be received by the December 1 deadline.

Fill in the form online and print out the entry confirmation. The entry confirmation must be mailed to the BC and Yukon Book Prizes office along with 5 copies of the book and the $45 entry fee for each prize category entered. Payment can be made by cheque or money order made payable to West Coast Book Prize Society or cash, or you can pay with a credit card while completing the online form.

Book submissions must be shipped by mail or courier, as we currently do not accept in person drop offs.

 

Judging and Prize information

For each of the eight prize categories there is a jury of three industry professionals, and from their individually submitted ballots, five finalists including the winner are selected in each prize category.

For the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award, there is a ballot vote by BC and Yukon Booksellers and from those ballots, five finalists including the winner are selected.

The finalists for the eight prizes and are announced in mid-April.

The prize winners are announced at the BC ad Yukon Book Prizes Gala. The Gala is held annually in September. The winners receive a cash prize of $3,000 plus a certificate.
