An Evening with Julian Brave Noisecat and Jen Sookfong Lee

Join the BC and Yukon Book Prizes and Windowseat Books on Wednesday, August 26th at 6pm for an in-person evening with the finalists of the 2026 BC and Yukon Book Prizes.

Jen Sookfong Lee (author of The Hunger We Pass Down), finalist for the Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes, and Julian Brave NoiseCat (author of We Survived the Night: An Indigenous Reckoning), finalist for the Hubert Evans Non-fiction Prize, will be reading from their shortlisted books. They will also answer audience questions.

Registration is helpful, but admission is free!

About the authors:

JEN SOOKFONG LEE was born and raised in Vancouver’s East Side, and she now lives with her son in North Burnaby. Her memoir, Superfan: How Pop Culture Broke My Heart, was a finalist for the 2024 Forest of Reading Evergreen Award and the City of Vancouver Book Award, was named a Best Book of 2023 by the Globe and Mail and Apple Books Canada, and was a TODAY Show Recommended Read. Jen is also the author of The Conjoined, longlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award and a finalist for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize; The Better Mother, a finalist for the City of Vancouver Book Award; The End of East; The Shadow List; and Finding Home. Jen acquires and edits books for ECW Press.

JULIAN BRAVE NOISECAT is a writer, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, champion powwow dancer, and student of Salish art and history. His writing has appeared in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The New Yorker.
