Join the BC and Yukon Book Prizes for Storied: Discussions on Books, Publishing, and the Creative Process.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, Cynara Geissler (Arsenal Pulp Press), Michael Leyne (Figure 1 Publishing), and Curtis Samuel (TouchWood Editions) will discuss regional publishing and books with Matea Kulić, executive director of the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia.

The event begins at 7 pm (PT). It will run for an hour and a half.
This is a free event, but registration is required.

About the guests:

Cynara Geissler (she/her) is the Director of Marketing and Publicity at Arsenal Pulp Press. She’s a graduate of The University of Winnipeg (BA English Honours, BA Creative Writing, BA German), where she co-edited four issues of Juice (the U of W’s creative writing journal, published annually). She attended the Master of Publishing Program at Simon Fraser University from 2009-2010. Cynara has given key notes and lead professional development sessions at literary festivals and conferences including the FOLD (Festival of Literary Diversity), Humber College’s Book Summit, and Book Net Canada’s Tech Forum. She is a recurring guest speaker in SFU’s Master of Publishing Program, and an ongoing ACP (Association of Canadian Publishers) mentor to junior publicists in the areas of marketing, publicity, and author care.

Michael Leyne is the editorial director at Figure 1 Publishing in Vancouver, where he acquires and edits art books. Previously he was managing editor of a literary press in Vancouver. He completed the MPub program at SFU in 2013, and has been a finalist (2020) and a winner (2022) of the Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence.

Curtis Samuel is a Welsh-Canadian settler currently living on the traditional lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən People, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. He has worked in publicity at Penguin Random House Canada and House of Anansi, and is currently the Publicist & Social Media Coordinator at TouchWood Editions.

Matea Kulić is the current Executive Director of the Association of Book Publishers of BC and formerly the Editorial Director of The Capilano Review. She lives in Vancouver, BC, with her partner and daughter, in an apartment with too many books.
